Liverpool have been linked with a move for Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund for a while now; that isn’t really a secret. Given the competition for his services and a supposed £100million price tag, a deal won’t be easy for the Reds.
But Paddy Kenny believes it will be, given the Reds’ track record of spending big on proven quality such as Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk. He told Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“I can easily see Liverpool spending that kind of money on a big name. They have done it before with Alisson and Van Dijk.”
Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for the midfielder. But according to Kenny, who played for teams such as Bolton Wanderers and QPR during his heyday, LFC should get a deal for him across the line– which could make him Liverpool’s club-record signing.
“Then there is Nunez as well. Why not? Liverpool always get these deals right and I’m sure they will be looking at bringing him in next summer.”
The Reds need to sign a midfielder sooner or later. Unless Curtis Jones and/or Harvey Elliott can prove a point next season, Liverpool would do well to sign a midfielder in the coming transfer windows.
Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara will be a year older come the summer of 2023 while James Milner is already nearing the end of his playing career. Amidst this, we need someone in the middle of the park to safeguard our interests in the long run.
Someone like Jude Bellingham. The youngster, at such a young age, is a regular for the Black and Yellow and a shoo-in to travel with Gareth Southgate’s England to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup later this year.
His best is yet to come and the Reds would know that. Having a player like that in our ranks can make the difference in the long run. Players like him don’t come around often and it’s best if we snap him up before the hype around him makes him potentially unaffordable for us.
Hopefully, Kenny proves to be right. It will be hard to find a Liverpool fan that can reason against Bellingham joining us and if the finances suit the Reds, this would be a match made in heaven.
