Report: Liverpool midfielder ‘does not want to sign a new contract’ amidst swap deal links

Transfer News: Naby Keita does not want to sign a new Liverpool contract amidst Adrien Rabiot swap deal links

According to Libero (h/t Liverpool Echo), Naby Keita does not want to sign a new contract at Liverpool, with a possibility of a swap deal with Juventus involving Adrien Rabiot lurking.

The Guinean international joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in a much-hyped move but injuries at crucial points of his career meant that he never really got going on Merseyside.

That was until last season, when he finally started seeing regular playing time and was an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Nevertheless, it is now said that Keita isn’t interested in extending his current LFC deal.

He is set to become a free agent next year which raises a big question for the Reds if the 27-year-old star doesn’t put pen to paper on a new contract.

What next for Naby Lad?

Do they lose him for free next summer or cash in on him during the current window? There are also links of him being involved in a deal that could see him swap clubs with Rabiot, who is a regular fixture in Juventus’ midfield.

If Keita doesn’t renew his contract, the Reds would be smart to start looking for a replacement. Rabiot is of a similar age profile and has experience of playing for Juve, PSG, and Les Bleus

to be precise. Losing him on a free next year would then be a nightmare situation.

Moreover, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson are in their 30s. James Milner is nearing retirement, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can’t seem to get a start under Jurgen Klopp.

Midfield needs strengthening, not weakening. Any senior central midfielder that leaves must be replaced and hopefully, that is the feeling within the club as well.
