Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah provided an assist in the final of the U19 Euro Championship as England were crowned champions, as per the Reds’ official website.
The U19 side trailed by a goal at the end of half-time against Israel. Liverpool’s 19-year-old defender provided a header across the opposition goal for Callum Doyle to slot in at the beginning of the second half.
Another Liverpool youngster featured in the game. Luke Chambers came on the pitch before the end of the second half. The 90 minutes ended in a stalemate.
The U19 side kept on pushing for a winner. And in the second half of extra-time, two quick goals meant England were crowned champions and lifted the trophy in the Trnava Stadium in Slovakia.
Quansah featured in every game of the tournament and was a key member of Ian Foster’s side. The Young Lions primarily played with a back three and the 19-year-old’s quality shone throughout the tournament.
He was one of the reasons the side made it to the final. The LFC youngster scored a match-winning goal towards the end of the game against the Italians in the semi-final to keep alive the hopes of the trophy.
Joining the Reds at the age of five, the young defender has captained the U18 side and now is a regular for the U23 side. Overall, Quansah has featured 59 times for Liverpool’s two youth sides but still not made a senior appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s senior side.
The youth product is certainly a player fans will be eager to see in action in the future. Currently, with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate all shoe-ins for the defensive positions, it’ll be difficult for the 19-year-old to get any game time.
But the futures of certain defenders in the squad are uncertain. Quansah is still inexperienced, but being in and around the squad and getting his first minutes in the team is something fans hope the young defender can manage if there’s a vacant place in Kurge Klopp’s side next season.
