Report: Liverpool face fresh Chelsea battle for 27-year-old Frenchman

Transfer News: Adrien Rabiot now on the radar of Chelsea amidst Liverpool interest

According to Corriere dello Sport via Football Talk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Chelsea have shown interest in signing Liverpool target and Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The Reds have been linked with the French star recently but could now have to battle the Blues for his signature. It is believed that LFC won’t sign another player this summer and wait for 2023 to strengthen their midfield.

However, if their interest in Rabiot is real, then the Blues can pose serious competition. After all, he has played under Thomas Tuchel during the German’s time at PSG.

Rabiot can be an important signing for both teams, were he to leave Juve for either SW6 or L4 this summer. He is of a good age profile and has plenty of experience in France as well as Italy.

Chelsea make their interest known

Like the Reds, Chelsea’s two main men in the middle of the park are slowly approaching the twilight of their careers. Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are in their 30s.

Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho may also need replacing for Chelsea sometime in the future. Rabiot, who is 27, also has just one year left on his contract

The Bianconeri would know that if he doesn’t renew his deal, then they risk losing him on a free transfer next year. Whether that nudges them in the direction of offloading Rabiot this summer remains to be seen.

The last midfielder Liverpool brought in from Juventus was Christian Poulsen a little over a decade ago. If Rabiot arrives at Anfield, hopefully, he does a lot better than the Dane but then again, it remains to be seen if we really do bring him in this summer.
