According to the Mirror, Liverpool are ‘likely’ to cash in on Roberto Firmino
if he indicates that he wants to leave the club in search of a new challenge.Juventus have an interest in the 30-year-old Brazilian superstar and believe they can get him for less than £20million this summer. Firmino currently has one year left on his contract.
With the FIFA World Cup right around the corner, Firmino would be battling the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Matheus Cunha, and Richarlison for a place in Tite’s squad. Jesus is now at Arsenal.
Richarlison has sealed a move to Tottenham Hotspur, while Cunha is enjoying decent playing time at Atletico Madrid. Juve are also three men short up front.
Paulo Dybala and Federico Bernardeschi have left as free agents while Alvaro Morata’s loan spell has come to an end this summer. Firmino can play as a centre-forward and a number 10- just like he did at TSG Hoffenheim.
If the Reds are planning contract talks with Firmino and his agent, then it means they plan on extending it. It makes sense as well because the Brazilian star can be an important player for us.
There aren’t many better than Firmino at playing the false nine role in order to bring other attackers into the game. The way he drops deep and creates space for others is the reason Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane flourished so much at LFC.
But then again, it makes sense to offload him this summer if he doesn’t want to put pen to paper on a new deal. That would be better, at least from a financial standpoint, than losing him on a free in 2023.
With Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi, and Sadio Mane already out the Anfield door, the Reds must be careful with protecting the depth of the squad up front.
