Fabio Carvalho admits he turned down a lot of clubs before choosing Liverpool move
Fabio Carvalho was officially unveiled as a Liverpool player yesterday. Fans knew he was set to come on board but the move was only announced this Sunday.
At 19, Carvalho quickly became one of the most sought-after talents in the Championship. Speaking after the move was made official, Carvalho made it clear that he was always going to choose LFC when their offer came in.
He was asked why the Reds were the right choice for him and what was going through his mind when the interest from Liverpool became clear. He said to Liverpoolfc.com:
“To be fair, I had a bit of interest from a lot of clubs but I didn’t let that get to my head because obviously, I had a season to focus on. Once you hear that Liverpool are interested, there’s only one thought in your mind, which is to join them and try to be in and around the team.”
This all but confirms that the Reds’ interest in Carvalho was there while the season was still going on. But he couldn’t have been distracted as the Cottagers were in a race to be promoted to the Premier League- which they achieved.
A great prospect for Klopp and co
And while Carvalho will be playing in the PL next season, it would be in Liverpool red rather than Fulham white. It speaks a lot about a club when a player admits he turned down other options in favour of us.
There wouldn’t have been a shortage of suitors for him but Jurgen Klopp and co were smart to get this deal over the line. The fee is believed to be £7.7million if all add-ons are met.
It’s a great thing having young stars in your team that believe they have a point to prove. The Reds can use Carvalho in their midfield three but we can also see him play down the flanks.

This level of versatility has also been displayed by Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, which is why Klopp would know he can depend on the trio to add depth to his squad, especially in cup games.
