Spanish ace waiting on proposals as Liverpool continue to be linked

Marco Asensio ‘waiting’ for proposals from clubs, including Liverpool

Marco Asensio has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid and the 26-year-old is now waiting for proposals from clubs, including Liverpool, according to Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The Spanish national has just a year left on his contract and an extension with the Spanish champions is yet to be agreed upon. Next year the player will be a free agent and can negotiate with any team at the end of the season if Madrid decides against offering him a new contract.

The Merseyside club are among a number of clubs, including Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal. The Reds lost Sadio Mane this summer and the Spaniard’s name has cropped up several times.

Although, with Liverpool having agreed to new terms with Mohamed Salah, it remains to be seen whether Asensio is a player the club will still go after. The 26-year-old plays on the right-hand side of the attack, a position the Egyptian occupies at the Anfield club.

Salah’s name is the first one on the team sheet. The 30-year-old is Jurgen Klopp’s talisman and the Merseyside club have seen a lot of success with the Egyptian in the side. Fans will feel it’s unlikely that Asensio will be ahead of Salah in the pecking order.

Our other attacking options include Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Roberto Firmino and Fabio Carvalho. It’s a challenge for any player to get into the team ahead of some of the options at our German manager’s disposal.

The Spaniard is a player who was considered a great prospect a few years back, but injuries have hindered the 26-year-old’s progress. The former Mallorca man’s stock has seen a dip in recent years.

But if there’s any manager in world football with the pedigree to bring the best out of players, it’s Klopp. If Asensio were to sign, it would be interesting to see how he fares alongside the big names in Liverpool’s attack.
