Nottingham Forest have agreed personal terms with Liverpool right-back Neco Williams, according to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo). The Tricky Trees look to snap up the 21-year-old, who impressed on a short loan spell at Fulham last season.
In his time with the Cottagers, the Welsh youngster played 15 times and contributed to two goals and two assists. He helped the side win promotion to the Premier League. Forest, who were also promoted, are now looking to snap Williams.
The Reds are open to letting the right-back leave after signing Calvin Ramsay
this summer. Williams is looking for regular football, which seems unlikely with Trent Alexander-Arnold firmly in Jurgen Klopp’s plans. With World Cup aspirations, the Merseyside club have seemingly accepted the player’s will for more game time and are open to letting him go. The youngster is willing to leave his boyhood club to be prepared to represent Wales at the World Cup.
The Tricky Trees are offering Williams a lucrative contract as they try to stave off interest from other clubs in English football’s first-tier. Fulham, Newcastle, Burnley and Newcastle are the other teams interested in his signature.
Fans will feel a move away is best for the youngster’s overall development. Liverpool’s right-hand side is in safe hands for years to come, with Trent being one of the best right-backs in the world. And with Ramsay, Klopp’s side has acquired a decent backup.
A move to a Premier League side where the youngster can amass minutes is essential. Williams has the talent to become a top player. The 21-year-old has represented the Reds 33 times and opportunities were scarce due to the quality of the Merseyside club’s current right-back.
After making his debut in 2019, Williams made a place for himself in the German manager’s squad. To progress further in his career, the Welshman needs to play as much as he can. And fans will certainly hold nothing against him for seeking a new challenge at this point in his career.
