Everton suggest swap deal with Andre Gomes for Liverpool-linked midfielder Adrien Rabiot
Everton have suggested a swap deal with Juventus between Andre Gomes and Liverpool-linked Adrien Rabiot, according to Italian outlet Juve Dipendenza (h/t Liverpool Echo).
There have been talks of the Reds being one of the clubs interested in the France international. But it seems our Merseyside rivals have the same idea. The Toffees were the ones to propose a swap deal with Gomes.
Rabiot seems to be keen to leave the Old Lady and the Premier League is said to be the 27-year-old’s ambition after spending his career in France and Italy. The lanky midfielder has just one year left on his Bianconeri contract.
28-year-old Gomes joined our Merseyside rivals in 2018 from Barcelona. After initially struggling, the midfielder became a fixture in the Goodison side. But the Evertonian has had a hard time establishing himself back in the team after sustaining an ankle injury in 2019.
The future of Liverpool’s midfield
Liverpool have made some signings this summer with the arrival of Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho. No new additions have been made to the midfield as of yet.
The Reds currently boast a number of talented midfielders, with Jordan Henerson, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho being preferred by Jurgen Klopp. Naby Keita has also been trusted to play more this season and has shown glimpses of quality.
Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are two youngsters at our manager’s disposal. They are still a bit inexperienced but have shown great potential when called upon.
Veteran James Milner has also extended his contract for another season. The 36-year-old’s versatility and fitness provide Klopp with a valuable asset in the squad. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also still at the club.
But we need to think about the future of our midfield as well. Since signing Thiago two years back, the side hasn’t seen a new face in the middle of the park. We’ve lost experienced players in Georginio Wijnaldum instead.

If Liverpool do go after Rabiot, the 27-year-old is someone with bags of experience. Still in his prime, we require players in our squad that can come in and contribute when needed. In the process, we’ll also add a fresh face to our ageing midfield.
