PL rivals enter the race for Bundesliga winger on Liverpool’s radar

Transfer News: Chelsea have entered the race for Liverpool target Serge Gnabry

Chelsea are interested in a move for Liverpool-linked Serge Gnabry, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Liverpool Echo]. The 26-year-old has just one year left on his contract.

A move to Stamford Bridge could be on the cards as the Blues struggle to get the Raphinha deal over the line. The German could also be seen as a replacement for Hakim Ziyech who is in talks with AC Milan.

With talks around the 26-year-old’s valuation being around £34 million in this transfer window, other teams in the Premier League are also interested, including his former club Arsenal. While Liverpool have been touted as suitors, the links have gone cold of late.

Since leaving English football for Germany, Gnabry has thrived in his role. The former Gunner went from being discarded at West Bromwich Albion by Tony Pulis to winning the biggest trophies with one of the most prestigious sides in the world.

Gnabry has become an essential part of the Bayern team. In 171 appearances for the German champions, the winger has scored 64 and assisted 40 goals. In the past four years playing for the Bundesliga giants, the 26-year-old has shown the versatility to play anywhere along the frontline.

Last season, Gnabry played primarily on the right side of the attack. But his versatility in the attack is an asset for any team to have.

Liverpool’s stacked attack

Liverpool’s attack is currently spearheaded by Mohamed Salah on the right. The Egyptian recently signed a contract extension

keeping him at the club till 2025. The 30-year-old has cemented his place on the right-wing and is nigh on undroppable.

Through the middle, Darwin Nunez is the recent addition made to the team and the Uruguayan striker will be keen to leave a mark from the word go. Roberto Firmino is also an option and his experience could make the difference in tight games.

Diogo Jota is the versatile forward in our squad who played a lot through the middle and on the left last season. Luis Diaz has cemented his place on the left-wing though since arriving from Porto in January and will have more time on the pitch following Sadio Mane’s exit.

More Liverpool News

While Gnabry is a quality player to have for any side, Liverpool fans will feel the team already has enough firepower up front. Bringing in a player of the 26-year-old’s calibre to sit on the bench is a waste of money and resources.
