Jurgen Klopp doesn’t believe Liverpool need new midfielders amid Juden Bellingham links
According to the via Liverpool Echo, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has proclaimed that the Reds are not looking to buy a new midfielder this summer. He went on to add that unless a player departs, bringing in a new face is not on the agenda.
“No [we’re not looking to buy], I can say that.”
“I don’t think something will happen in midfield, but you never know. If somebody comes to you and says ‘I want to go…’ Nobody came to me yet, but if that happens then we have to talk [about] new [players].
“But if the situation stays like it is, then tell me why?”
The German doesn’t understand the discourse around the Anfield side needing a new player in the middle of the park. Klopp is of the opinion that we already have enough players in the midfield already.
“I don’t understand. I do not understand. People told me about this discussion, but the last thing that would have crossed my mind is that we have to [sign a midfielder].”
With Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Fabio Carvalho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Klopp feels the squad has every type of midfielder.
On a backup for our Brazilian defensive-midfielder, the gaffer believes that Henderson and Milner are enough. And Klopp is of the opinion that a new addition would hamper the development of the youngsters in the squad.
“So where is the need for a midfielder? The day when somebody comes to me and tells me why exactly.”
Liverpool have been linked with Jude Bellingham for some time now and fans feel a new face like his would help the squad. With the ageing options in the middle of the park, a move for the 19-year-old is something to think about.
At Borrusia Dortmund, the young Englishman has become a staple in the midfield and Bellingham has become one of the best in his position in Germany. The 19-year-old’s energetic and dynamic play would fit in with the vibe of the Anfield crowd.
A new midfielder would help
While a new midfielder may not be necessary right now, in the long run, with the ageing midfield, it’s a position that requires attention. Thiago, Henderson and Milner are all in their 30s.
Injuries are also a concern, but fans have faith in the young blood and believe they can come in and do a decent job when needed. Elliott and Jones are players with enough experience around the first team.
