Darwin Nunez has now had two games where he has largely failed to impress for Liverpool. The first was a few days back in a 4-0 loss against Manchester United in Thailand.
And yesterday, he failed to make a big impact in the 2-0 win against Crystal Palace. Patrick Vieira’s side did not have a hard time marking the Uruguayan star.
At moments, Nunez seemed like he was trying a bit too hard. But then again, pre-season is not really the best time to judge a player.
The manager is more interested in getting players up to speed and warmed up before the serious games begin. Given his talent ID, Klopp would have not splashed the money on Nunez if he wasn’t sure the player was going to be a hit.
Given the hype surrounding the 23-year-old right now, it was expected that he would be at the receiving end of some banter by rival fans. But Nunez has now sent a blunt message to his critics.
He took to his Twitter account to tweet
“Resiliencia“- a word that means resilience in English- followed by a “shush” emoji.This is just the pre-season and the former SL Benfica and UD Almeria striker would need some time to get adjusted to new surroundings. That is the reason why Klopp is handing him minutes right now.
That is the whole point of these games before the regular season. It’s better to get the jury out on Nunez after at least one full season in England.
