Alex McLeish urges Jude Bellingham to snub Real Madrid in favour of Liverpool
Scotland legend Alex McLeish has urged Jude Bellingham to snub Real Madrid in favour of a move to Liverpool. The 63-year-old feels a move back to England is more enticing for the 19-year-old.
Bellingham joined Birmingham City as a young child and represented the first team at the age of 16. The England international then moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2020 and has been a regular member of the XI for the Bundesliga giants ever since.
McLeish, an Aberdeen legend, speaking to Football Insider (h/t Express), believes Bellingham has garnered enough experience in a foreign league and wants the England international to move back.
“Jude has served his time abroad.
“I always feel, when you are that age, that you want to play for someone in the Premier League. Why not Liverpool?”
Bellingham is one of the hottest prospects in world football currently. The midfielder is still 19 but exudes maturity on the pitch. He has been a critical member for a Dortmund side pushing against Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title.
While the Signal Iduna Park side seems unwilling to lose another star man this transfer window, next summer will be an exciting one in the Bellingham saga.
McLeish feels Liverpool have amassed a pedigree over the years of being able to challenge for every title. The Scottish legend believes Merseyside is a more compelling option when compared to other destinations.
“A couple of years ago they won the Champions League and they have recently won the Premier League. They are flying every single season, they are a force to be reckoned with. Why not Liverpool? Real Madrid might come in but is it the name that catches you more than the way you can settle into a club?”
The Reds won the Champions League in the 2018/19 season while also keeping Manchester City on their toes in the Premier League. We’ve also made it to three of the last five finals of European football’s most prestigious competition.
Liverpool also finally won the league title after a gap of 30 years in the 2019/20 season. We gave the Cityzens another tough fight in the previous campaign, losing out on the PL by just one point.
