Fabinho happy to have Stefan Bajcetic and other Liverpool academy youngsters on training tour in Austria

Liverpool are currently training in Austria ahead of the start of the new season and Stefan Bajcetic is amongst the academy youngsters who’ve flown with the team for the pre-season camp.

The 17-year-old has played a part in all of the Merseyside club’s friendlies. He featured against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and RB Leipzig. Although a defender on paper, Jurgen Klopp has opted to play the youngster in the midfield.

Fabinho spoke about Bajcetic and the other youngsters being included on the tour, via Liverpool Echo, and is happy to have the academy stars training with the first team.

“It’s important. He has trained with us, he will get better, he will have more confidence to take the ball, to turn, to do some stuff that the No. 6 does. It’s nice to have not just him but the other young lads as well playing really good football.”

The pre-season started off on a disappointing note with a defeat against arch-rivals United. But the result doesn’t reflect much when it comes to the first team. Klopp gave every member of the squad a 30-minute cameo.

The second game against Crystal Palace was the same. While we got the result, we still weren’t at our best, which is natural considering the players have just returned after their holidays.

Bajcetic was impressive in both the games playing in the midfield. And Klopp gave the 17-year-old the opportunity to feature in the Leipzig game as well.

Fans on social media have been impressed by the versatile Spaniard. His performances have been mature and composed. He seems like one to watch out for in the future.

The 17-year-old seems to be training for the defensive midfield role. With his ability to play at centre-back, the player is currently being moulded to step into Fabinho’s shoes, although it’s too early to say whether the youngster can pull it off.

Liverpool currently have no real alternative to our Brazilian defensive midfielder in the squad. Jordan Henderson or Thiago Alcantara step in when the 28-year-old isn’t available. Hopefully, Bajcetic can come of age and fulfil his potential sooner rather than later.
