Leeds United enquire about Liverpool target Matheus Nunes
According to the Portuguese outlet, Record (h/t The Express), Leeds manager, Jesse Marsch has shifted his attention to Sporting CP midfielder and Liverpool target Matheus Nunes.
Having escaped relegation on the last day of the previous season, Leeds are looking to strengthen the squad this summer. They have already signed six new players, to cover for the loss of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.
The Whites signed midfielder Tyler Adams from RB Leipzig and Marc Roca was brought in from Bayern Munich to cover the defensive midfield position. But manager Jesse Marsch is now eyeing another central midfielder, who can play in an advanced attacking role.
The Peacocks have reportedly asked Sporting CP about the availability of the 23-year-old star. Liverpool has also shown interest in the Sporting star, although the Reds haven’t been completely involved in this deal.
Chelsea are also interested in the midfielder, but right now, the Blues are busy focusing on signing a defender. Surprisingly, the young star has already turned down high-profile offers from several big clubs.
James Pearce of The Athletic has ruled out Liverpool acquiring Matheus Nunes this summer. The Reds might be holding off on spending money until 2023 in order to make an all-out effort to bring Jude Bellingham to Anfield.
It would be still possible for Leeds or any other club to seal the transfer by paying the full asking price for Nunes. Nunes arrives with a hefty £50 million price tag, a steep price indeed.
