Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provides Kostas Tsimikas injury update
Kostas Tsimikas did not play for Liverpool in their friendly match against RB Salzburg on Wednesday owing to a knee injury. The fullback had a successful season in 2021/22 for the Reds, filling in admirably for Andy Robertson at left-back and making 26 appearances across all competitions.
The Reds face the German side while still in Austria for preseason practice ahead of their Community Shield match against Manchester City on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp picked a primarily backup team in Austria, perhaps with the Community Shield fixture in mind, but Tsimikas was still left out despite regular left-back Andy Robertson sitting out. James Milner filled in at left-back in place of two regular left-backs.
Even though this would appear to be a minor injury, Jurgen Klopp revealed that the Greek star is not entirely fit to feature against Leipzig. The player would now be assessed before the crucial tie against the Citizens. While speaking to the club’s official website, the German manager said:
“He got yesterday a knock, so he cannot play today. And all the rest, we will see later.”
Several young players were involved in the match against the German team right from the start, including new signing Darwin Nunez, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, and Harvey Elliott.
But players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantra, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Roberto Firmino were all on the sidelines. Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out of action for the Reds in Salzburg due to preseason injuries.
Alisson is nearing a comeback and would be expected to play this weekend, but Jota and Oxlade-Chamberlain are in danger of missing the opening day of the Premier League on August 6 when Klopp’s team travels to face Fulham.

It remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp would be able to keep his team fit ahead of a gruelling Premier League season. Tsimikas scored the winning penalty in last season’s FA Cup final against Chelsea and will be keen to enjoy a third eventful trip to Wembley this year.
