Roberto Firmino has already confirmed his stance on the potential Liverpool exit
In spite of intense interest from Juventus, Liverpool is still unwilling to let Roberto Firmino leave the team. The Brazilian would want to be a part of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking lineup in the upcoming campaign as he would seek more consistency at the club.
With Darwin Nunez’s arrival, many would argue with the fact that Roberto Firmino’s prospects of playing frequently in the upcoming season have significantly decreased. The 30-year-old made just 17 starts in all competitions during the previous season, yet he managed to score 11 goals.
The signing of Luis Diaz in January had a reasonable effect on his playing time as well. Despite this, Klopp would want the striker to be a key player for his club and the Brazilian would be a major component of his attacking line-up.
This summer, Liverpool lost Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino in addition to selling Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich. The team’s overall attacking quality would drop if they lose another reliable forward as Firmino would provide depth in attack.
Juventus has recently shown a strong interest in Firmino and would still be looking to bolster their attacking depth with a more experienced player. Even after signing Dusan Vlahovic in January, manager Massimiliano Allegri would look forward to strengthening his team from all aspects.
The Italian club declined to trigger the buy option on Alvaro Morata, which allowed Paulo Dybala to leave on a free transfer to AS Roma. The Italian powerhouses have rekindled their interest in Morata but would also consider other options, with Firmino being one of their top targets.
Although it has been claimed that the club has made a potential offer of €23 million, the Italian giants had not yet formally made a proposal for the Brazilian. Firmino’s contract at Liverpool still has a year left, which from a commercial standpoint might entice the Anfield side to consider a strong offer.
The Reds are thinking about having an important conversation with the forward in the coming days to determine his future. Firmino has played more than 320 games for the team since signing for the club in 2015 and has contributed with 74 assists and 98 goals.
Despite Liverpool apparently wanting to keep the striker, a move to a major European club would be alluring if he could play regularly there, especially with the World Cup just around the corner.
However, while speaking about his future in May, the 30-year-old made it clear that he is happy at Anfield and would like to stay and contribute to the club. He said:
“I want to stay. I’m very happy here. I’m grateful to God to be here playing at a great club with great players and winning titles, and my wish is to stay.”
These words would be enough to keep the rumors at bay, however, Juventus would still make a second attempt to match Liverpool’s asking price. Roberto Firmino has been a key player for the Reds since the time Jurgen Klopp took over at Anfield and it would be safe to say that Liverpool would know that his experience would help the younger players to learn and grow.
