Trevor Sinclair: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be under added pressure against Manchester City

Liverpool are preparing for another demanding season in the spotlight and they have won two and lost three preseason games under the energetic manager, Jurgen Klopp. They will be looking to start the new season off well after missing out on the Premier League and Champions League titles last season.

On Saturday at the King Power Stadium, they have the Community Shield match against Citizens, a title that Jurgen Klopp did not win at Liverpool.

According to pundit Trevor Sinclair, it would be a match that Klopp cannot afford to lose since doing so would put the German manager under pressure. He also mentioned that they would like to start their season with a strong performance.

Speaking to talkSport (h/t The Express), Sinclair said:

“Both of these sides have been involved in big games this pre-season but one that stands out to me is the Manchester United result that Liverpool had. I think that’s put a bit of added pressure on Jurgen Klopp that he doesn’t want to get beaten off another Manchester club in the way that they got beaten off United. “

The Community Shield matchup between Manchester City and Liverpool on Saturday would be more than just a preseason exhibition because of the A-list talent and winning history between the two teams.

The match exhibits incredible talents on the field like Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk, as well as Ederson and Alisson, and Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, perhaps the two best coaches in the league.

The Community Shield match this weekend would feel more like a sample for the Premier League’s main event over the next nine months than a stress-free warm-up for the upcoming season because this match would be the league’s top fixture.

The 2022–23 Premier League season will have 18 additional clubs, yet it would be difficult to argue that anyone other than City or Liverpool would win the title in May. The fans would get a sense of how far ahead of the pack they are thanks to the Community Shield.

With Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, and Takumi Minamino leaving Anfield and Jesus, Zinchenko, and Raheem Sterling departing City, both clubs have rebuilt their squads this summer. However, due to the stability and consistency at each club, replacement players have been bought with a long-term perspective.

Neither team would be keeping an eye on the pursuing pack. Instead, they would be fixed on each other, watching for even the smallest blink or sign of weakness.

It remains to be seen whether the Community Shield match would be able to define both the club’s aspirations for the 2022/23 campaign.
