Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool ace Darwin Nunez following Community Shield win

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has lavished praise on Darwin Nunez following his performance in the Community Shield against Manchester City.

The Uruguayan striker has drawn flak for his performances in pre-season and started the evening on the bench. He came on in the second half and played a major role in the Reds winning their first Shield in 16 years.

Nunez won the penalty that saw Mohamed Salah restore Liverpool’s lead on the night. He then went on to head in Andy Robertson’s pass to put the result beyond doubt. As far as first impressions go, the 23-year-old did very well.

Klopp was also happy with what he saw and believes Nunez will only get better with time. The 23-year-old’s reaction after scoring showed what it meant to him and will give him confidence going forward.

“It was good, it was really good. It is clear it will get better with time.”

Klopp went on to add that players are easily judged and dismissed without giving them the time to impress. Nunez is no different and the huge price tag puts a target on his back. The Liverpool boss, however, has faith that his No.27 will come good.

“He will deal with it brilliantly. We are patient and we know he can do good stuff.”

All in all, it is always great for a new striker to get off the mark on his debut. It adds less pressure in the coming games and will also give them the confidence to keep going.

Nunez could not have wished for a better start to life in Red. A new hero might have been born at the King Power Stadium last night. One who can lead the Liverpool attack for years to come.

In what was touted as a battle between two new strikers, it was Nunez who came out the winner. Erling Haaland had opportunities as well but failed to show off his clinical side. With plenty of games to come, Nunez will hopefully keep going and prove his doubters wrong.
