Fulham manager Marco Silva makes a major admission ahead of Liverpool clash
Fulham manager Marco Silva is unhappy with the squad present at his disposal as he would love to have more players to increase the squad depth. The Cottagers face Liverpool at their home ground in the first league match of the season and the fans would expect a tough contest for Fulham.
Liverpool are by no means taking this fixture lightly as Jurgen Klopp would aim to keep the best possible start for the new season. The newly promoted side have signed four players this summer but lost a key player, Fabio Carvalho to the Reds.
There have been no other big-name departures but the club has lacked sufficient depth to cover every position on the field. With just 16 senior players to count on, the 45-year-old manager will be in urgent need of some new signings before the transfer window shuts.
The former Everton manager revealed the squad status ahead of their clash against Liverpool and insisted that the squad is not ready for Sunday’s match. Speaking to West London Sport (As cited by Liverpool Echo), Silva said:
“No. We, as a squad, are not ready. These players are ready. I have to tell you, and I don’t want to speak for too much time about the situation, I want to be clear with you; now we have 16 senior players in our squad. No one competes at this level with 16 senior players in your squad.
The Fulham manager would not be happy with the fact that they are 5-6 players short at this moment and it will not be of any help if they don’t want to compete in the Premier League.
The English league has been a difficult one to break for teams who have been freshly promoted and it could be the case with the Cottagers as well.
However, Jurgen Klopp would not be trapped by Silva’s words as they would also be mind games played by the manager to nullify his opponents. It wouldn’t make much difference for the Reds who will be preparing themselves regardless of the opposition manager’s opinions.

The Anfield side were able to get their targets this summer as they roped in Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and Calvin Ramsay. Several first-team players like Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Oxlade Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, and Naby Keita are all injured and unsure about their presence against Fulham.
It remains to be seen whether the Reds would be able to cause a major upset as they would be the favourites to win this contest.
