Liverpool set to offer star midfielder Naby Keita a new contract
According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are set to offer midfielder Naby Keita a fresh deal to secure his services for a prolonged period of time.
After a new deal for Diogo Jota on Tuesday, Liverpool now seem ready to offer Naby Keita an extension as well according to Fabrizio Romano in his transfer column on Caught Offside (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The 27-year-old Guinean, who has had a tough injury-laid spell at Anfield, seemed to find his feet for The Reds this season. After joining us from RB Leipzig close to four years back, Keita’s journey at the club has been filled with ups and downs.
With a heavy price tag, it is safe to say the Kopites expect more than what has been delivered from Keita. However, whenever he has been fit, his ability has never been questioned.
Given his current contract is set to expire next summer, Liverpool would need to act quickly in order to decide between either cashing in on the midfielder or giving him a new contract – the latter of which seems to be the case in this situation.
The hindrance in contract talks might be the fact that Keita has been very inconsistent with performances, or has been out for prolonged periods with injuries.
The power of negotiations seems to be balanced as the Guinea star had a good season with The Reds coming into the summer. According to Fabrizio Romano (Subscription Required) [h/t Liverpool Echo), initial talks have already been held with Keita’s party.
“There have been preliminary negotiations with his representatives, but they are not yet at the final stage”
Should his contract be extended? Should the club cash in on him? Well, it’s just a matter of time before we find out.

What we do know is that he is a top player. When fit and on form, he is virtually unstoppable. The Reds are yet to sign a senior central midfielder since Georginio Wijnaldum’s transfer last summer and for Keita, the opportunity is there – if he is willing to take it.
