Transfer News: Burnley look to sign Liverpool Centre-back Sepp van den Berg on loan
Burnley are looking to sign Liverpool’s 20 year old centre-back Sepp van den Berg on loan as per Allan Nixon (h/t LancsLive).
After featuring for Preston North End in the Championship for two seasons back to back on loan, the Dutchman returned to Liverpool earlier this summer for preseason.
Over two seasons at Preston, he featured for the Lilywhites 66 times across all competitions. As talented he may be for his age, Van den Berg has failed to showcase that he is good enough to be handed regular first-team minutes at Liverpool.
The Dutchman who has gained a lot of experience and given his age, can benefit from a loan to a top-flight side as well. For the Reds’ senior team, he has featured just four times in his entire career.
With no real chance for Van den Berg to break into the starting squad, unless there is an injury situation like the 2020/21 season, a loan will do him a great deal of good.
A number of our youth players have been sent out to get experience elsewhere this season. Rhy Williams is at Blackpool for the next season while the likes of Tyler Morton and Conor Bradley have also been sent out to play for lower-division English teams.
With other centre-backs like Williams and Billy Koumetio also out on loan, it is a great opportunity for this young starlet to get enough game-time and bolster his confidence.

Ibrahima Konate’s injury could be a chance for him to prove his worth and stay at the club. However, it is extremely likely that Klopp plays Virgil van Dijk and one of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez in the big games.
Still, cup games could offer the former PEC Zwolle player some minutes if he ends up staying at Anfield this summer.
