Transfer News: Liverpool pursuing Manchester City midfield star Bernardo Silva

As reported by Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are the latest club in the race to sign Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva.

Man City ideally would not want the Portuguese to depart the club, but Silva’s intent to leave has put the club in a tricky situation. The 27-year-old has 48 goals and 50 assists for The Citizens in 250 appearances across all competitions.

The sleek footballer is also on the radar of Spanish giants FC Barcelona and current Ligue 1 title holders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The involvement of these heavy-hitters in the race for Silva makes him a player that will be hard to sign for us.

The Reds, who are in a tricky spot thanks to the midfield injury situation, will do a world of good for themselves if they manage to rope in Silva.

Any club wanting to sign Silva should be ready to cough out around €80m. After all, he is one of Pep Guardiola’s main men and it will be complicated for him to find a like-for-like replacement for the Portuguese.

Silva had a good 2021-22 campaign, netting eight times and assisting four in 35 league appearances. The former Monaco man can play multiple positions in midfield and can also play on the right wing.

Any top European club would love to rope him in thanks to his dynamic game and versatility. However, it remains to be seen if Man City will approve of such a move, considering it will directly strengthen their direct PL rivals.

Silva doesn’t have a good history with Liverpool either. He was notably photographed not applauding LFC players during their guard of honour in the 2019/20 season.

The price tag is also pretty steep and it is anyone’s guess if the Reds would be open to meeting that. They are already said to be pursuing young Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund and could make an approach for him next year.

It’s better we save our time and efforts for a transfer that can actually happen.
