Liverpool have learned the fate of Thiago Alcantara after he picked up a knock in the draw against Fulham. According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express], the Spaniard could be out until mid-September, i.e. six weeks, due to a hamstring injury.
The Reds started the opening game of the Premier League campaign a bit sluggish. The Cottagers were onto us from the first minute. We were unable to create many chances up until the second half of the match.
Aleksander Mitrovic’s towering header gave the London-based club the lead. And we were behind at half-time. We were chasing the game in the second half. But the most worrying moment came when Thiago went down and felt the back of his leg.
The 31-year-old has had his injury issues in Merseyside since joining from Bayern Munich back in 2020. Fans would argue that the Spain international is our best player in the middle of the park, but he’s often on the sidelines for the Reds.
In the end, we managed to scrape a point against Fulham. Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah
got on the scoresheet for the Merseyside club but it was a result that still felt like a loss.Dropping a point on the opening day of the PL campaign against a newly promoted side is bitter. But it’s the injuries in the camp that have left a bad taste in Liverpool fans’ mouths.
Alongside Thiago, in the middle of the park, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all picked up a knock. This has left the Merseysiders with dwindling numbers.
Other players on the sideline for the Reds are Diogo Jota and Ibrahima Konate. The new campaign has gotten off to an ominous start for us.
Thiago will seemingly miss some important fixtures that Liverpool play in the following weeks. One amongst them is the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
