According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) Burnley have been linked with a potential loan move for Liverpool centre-back Sepp van den Berg, and their manager Vincent Kompany has now spoken about the same.
The 20-year-old Dutchman joined the Reds for pre-season following a decent loan spell at Championship club Preston North End. However good the spell may be, he certainly has to punch above his weight to get consistent game-time at Liverpool.
van den Berg is on the lookout for regular game time, and Burnley had come up earlier as a suitable club for the young Dutchman. They are now in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League last season.
Kompany recently spoke about the opportunity of signing Sepp on loan (h/t Liverpool Echo). He added that van den Berg is a “very good player” but also brought attention to the fact that he is “another club’s player”.
“All I can say is Sepp is a really good player but a key part of it is to find a balance between the players we’ve already got and the game time, making sure that we’re strong enough.”
Kompany also spoke about how he thinks that Burnley’s defence at the moment seems good. He added that it was fair to say that they were “defending well”.
With practically negligible chances for the Dutchman to enter Liverpool’s starting squad, a loan move with a good amount of games is what he’d be in search for.
With Kompany being a world-class defender during his playing days, perhaps he can pass on some tips to the young Dutchman to become even better.
