Former Chelsea Defender Jason Cundy advises Manchester City not to sell Bernardo Silva to Liverpool
Speaking on TalkSPORT (h/t Liverpool Echo), pundit Jason Cundy has claimed that it would be a wrong move on Manchester City’s side if they end up selling Bernardo Silva, especially after the departures of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling.
Notably and more importantly for the Cityzens, it would directly strengthen Liverpool. Cundy is a former professional footballer who most notably played for Chelsea between 1988-1992 and currently works as a football pundit on TalkSport.
Liverpool have been linked with a surprise move for Silva along with La Liga giants Barcelona.
“They have a history, and Pep has come out recently and said a month ago he didn’t know if Bernardo would be a player of his. It looked like he was going to leave this time last year.”
“I’m not sure they can afford to let another one go. If you are Liverpool watching this, it just weakens their [City’s] squad.”
The Portuguese International is known for his creative style of play matched with an incredible work rate and was one of the standout performers in Pep Guardiola’s Premier League-winning team last season.
A deal looks unlikely
It would not be wrong to suggest that if Silva leaves the Citizens, it will be a massive loss to the team and would certainly make them weaker, irrespective of the fact that they have added Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips to their ranks.
Mindgames have already started with Jurgen Klopp being one up over Pep by winning their Community Shield fixture with new signing Darwin Nünez impressing from the bench.
This would put pressure on City to not lose any ground with Liverpool waiting to strike and put forward a title challenge.
Losing Silva will create an unnecessary burden on Pep Guardiola to find a replacement with less than a month to go until the summer transfer window ends. At 28, it’s not like he is on a decline with regards to his footballing ability.

Liverpool, however, will be looking at this situation very closely hoping that Silva doesn’t make the switch to FC Barcelona. We can do with a midfielder of his ilk, but given that it’s City on the other end of the negotiations table, any potential deal may not be easy to complete.
