Former rival star believes PL ace would welcome Liverpool transfer approach

Kevin Campbell: Youri Tielemans would be open to moving to Liverpool

According to the Liverpool Echo, Former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell says Youri Tielemans would be interested if a move to Liverpool was on offer.

Liverpool are in dire straits in terms of the midfield. Thiago Alcantara’s recent injury against Fulham adds him to the list of injured midfielders along with Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Midfield depth has been haunting Liverpool since Georginio Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021. The Reds could do with a player like him, almost injury-free all the time and with consistent performances to boot.

Campbell trusts Tielemans to fill the void Thiago’s injury has caused. The 25 year old Belgian is into the last year of his contract at Leicester City. He has been linked to the Reds in the past as well.

“When you look at Thiago, his game and what he brings to Liverpool, Tielemans could go someway to replacing that. Thiago brings craft to that Liverpool midfield. Tielemans brings that as well”

Tielemans’ style of play is a mixture of good offensive and defensive abilities, both on and off the ball. For someone of his stature, he is extremely good in defensive situations. Offensively, he is a good passer of the ball, along with having a good pace and a strong shot on him.

Furthermore, he has been a vital cog in Brendan Rodgers’ squad. He starred in 32 games in the league last season, scoring six goals and making four assists. The former Monaco man has 24 goals and assists apiece for Leicester City in 159 appearances across all competitions so far.

He also has 52 caps for Belgium, scoring for them on five occasions. With the club also linked to the likes of Jude Bellingham, Ismael Bennacer and Nicolo Barella, it will be interesting to see what gaffer Jurgen Klopp opts for.

The German has been adamant about his transfer policy this summer, saying he won’t make any panic signings, but the club won’t be hurt with some insurance strength in depth.
