Jordan Henderson speaks about Liverpool after Sadio Mane exit

Speaking to TalkSPORT (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson talked about adapting to life at Anfield after Sadio Mane. The Senegalese international completed a transfer to Bayern Munich this summer after six successful seasons on Merseyside.

Mane joined the Reds in 2016 from Southampton and was one of Jurgen Klopp’s main men in his revival of Liverpool. In 269 appearances for the Reds, the Senegalese netted 120 times along with providing 48 assists. Scoring 90 of them in the Premier League, Mane finished his time with Liverpool as our fifth highest goal scorer in the league.

Together with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, he formed one of modern-day football’s best trios scoring a combined 338 goals. Mane’s departure from the club certainly marked the end of an era in which Liverpool won every possible top-flight club trophy.

Club captain Jordan Henderson meanwhile, spoke about how the club is adapting to life without the 30-year-old Senegalese and how they miss him.

“Any team in the world would miss him. He’s one of the world’s best.”

Henderson brought light to the fact that Mane was a bright figure in the dressing room but the club must simply move on without him. He added that Sadio was indeed a big miss for the club, but wished him only the best.

“Really good to have around, setting standards, so a big miss for us. But that’s football. Hopefully he does well at Bayern and we’ve brought a few new lads in to this group and hopefully we can adapt and change a bit now Sadio’s gone. But like I said, life goes on.”

Mane expressed his desire to depart from the club after the loss to Real Madrid in the 2022 UEFA Champions League final earlier this year in May. It came as a shock to many, as it was a very unexpected decision from Mane.

Liverpool, though, have replaced Mane with Darwin Nunez this summer, who hopefully will emulate and further go beyond Mane’s numbers at the club.

The Senegalese international is a Liverpool legend and set high standards for attackers to follow at Anfield. He will always have a special part in the hearts of Reds fans everywhere. For now, the club has moved on and so should we.
