Liverpool transfer target Ismael Bennacer lays out contract terms at AC Milan
Rumoured Liverpool target Ismael Bennacer is discussing terms for a new contract with his club AC Milan as per reports from Gazette du Fennec (h/t The Mirror). The Algerian midfielder has put in more than just a shift for Milan in central midfield and defensive midfield.
The 24-year-old Algerian was also a part of Arsenal’s youth setup. He moved to Milan in 2019. Bennacer is in talks with representatives from AC Milan for a better contract. He is currently on £1.2million per season. His current contract runs down till the summer of 2024.
The Algerian is expecting a deal of £2.9million per season, and it is now up to the Rossoneri to either extend his terms or cash in on him rather than lose him for free.
With Liverpool struggling to start off the season on a positive note, seeing back-to-back draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace, the Reds are crying for depth in all departments.
Multiple injuries in midfield are a cause of concern for the Merseysiders. With Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all being sidelined, the club does not have enough depth to compete for all four trophies. Furthermore, a minor injury issue saw Jordan Henderson also start from the bench against Crystal Palace.
A player like Ismael Bennacer can help reduce the stress on Jurgen Klopp in these injury-laid times. He can create chances out from the back and the midfield, which Liverpool currently lack. James Milner starting games isn’t the best of signs if the club is looking to compete on all fronts.
Moreover, Bennacer being only 24 is a positive for Liverpool, understanding the fact that most of the existing midfield is not getting any younger. A player of his calibre should certainly be signed up as he is already on the radar of other top European clubs.
