Manchester United have approached Real Madrid for the transfer of Casemiro. However, for the Brazilian to feature in the fixture against Liverpool on 22 August, the Red Devils must register the Brazilian by 12 pm on Friday, according to Manchester Evening News.
The Merseysiders visit Old Trafford in the Premier League’s final game of matchday three. Erik ten Hag’s side have had a nightmare start to the 2022/23 campaign. The Red Devils have lost their first two games.
United have struggled in the middle of the park. The former Ajax manager has seen his team concede six goals. Fans have pointed fingers at the Manchester-based club’s midfield. However, Casemiro is a quality defensive midfielder.
Things haven’t been promising for Liverpool either. Jurgen Klopp’s side have gotten just two points out of a possible six. We opened the new season with a draw against Fulham. Then, a Luis Diaz wonder-strike secured us a point against Crystal Palace.
It’s an important game for both sides. United can’t afford to lose three games on the trot. The Merseysiders can’t afford to drop points and possibly be seven points behind champions Manchester City.
Klopp has to contend with injuries as well. The midfield evidently looks weak without Thiago Alcantara. Darwin Nunez will also be missing after receiving a red card against Palace.
Liverpool’s attack has lacked the cutting edge in recent games. Mohamed Salah has gotten off to an unusually slow start. The defence has looked shaky with Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate on the sidelines.
During pre-season, United beat us 4-0. The result hasn’t been a reflection of the Red Devils’ season as of yet. But the Merseysiders have shown similar signs of frailties.
However, United have faltered against the high-press of Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. Liverpool are one of the best at pressuring teams. Supporters go into the game confident of a win.
Casemiro’s potential inclusion against us, in that regard, could be a worry as the Brazilian has been solid whenever he has faced us in the past, most notably in the UEFA Champions League final this May, which we lost 1-0.
