Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool will only sell Naby Keita for a huge offer

According to respected journalist Fabrizio Romano speaking via Caught Offside (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool will only consider selling Naby Keita if a huge offer arrives for the player.

Naby Keita has shown his frustrations about wanting to play more regularly and therefore might be open to moving elsewhere to get more minutes. This has resulted in stalling the contract talks, a move that is risky for the club given that it expires next year.

“Jurgen Klopp plans to speak with Keita in the coming days to find a solution. Liverpool plans to keep Keita in case of many injuries in midfield. Only a huge offer would change Liverpool’s situation regarding Keita’s future at the club.”

Jurgen Klopp is keen to speak to the midfielder and address the situation as he clearly does not want to see another midfielder being out of the equation, after injuries to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Thiago Alcantara.

Klopp would have to be extremely convincing to change the midfielder’s stance, who has found opportunities hard to come by since his move from RB Leipzig.

Coming for a fee worth around £52.75 million, there were big expectations of the player. However, he has not been able to cement a place for himself in the first team with many injuries curtailing his Liverpool career.

With the midfielder stalling to sign a contract, it would be wise to recoup some portion of the amount spent on acquiring his services.

However, with the current injury crisis, selling the first-team midfielder without a proper replacement is very risky considering the squad depth available with our rivals.

Hence, it is unlikely that the Reds let him go for a small fee and rather would prefer to lose him on a free next summer. It will be an immensely sad end to an exciting signing at the time and Naby Keita will always be remembered as a good squad player.
