“If you pay about £25 million”- Liverpool told to sign Belgian star on the radar of Arsenal

Stephen Warnock has urged Liverpool to look at Youri Tielemans

Speaking on BBC Sport

(h/t Liverpool Echo), former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has urged the board to look at Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans to resolve their injury-ridden midfield.

“At the moment, who is available and seems like he’s after a move, is Tielemans at Leicester.

“You think, could he be an option if you pay about £25 million for someone like him to come into that midfield. To offer the competitiveness that is needed in those central positions.”

Warnock made 67 appearances for Liverpool and the defender contributed one goal and two assists. After retiring in 2018, the defender has been vocal about his former club and gives his piece of advice.

This time, he has urged the club to look at the profile of Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans, who is entering the final year of his contract at Leicester and has shown no sign of extending the contract.

It is speculated that Foxes are also willing to negotiate in a bid to cash in on the player who might leave for free next summer.

Arsenal have shown the most concrete sign

in the player and many have touted the club to be the player’s next destination. Therefore, any potential move has to be done quickly in order to fend off the rivals.

Youri Tielemans has been the subject of hype and potential ever since he was a youngster playing for Belgian club RSC Anderlecht, after which he had a successful spell at Monaco.

This prompted Leicester City to fend off interest and spend big to sign the Belgian International, who has not disappointed since his arrival at the King Power stadium.

Kevin Campbell: Youri Tielemans would be open to moving to Liverpool.

Now, at 25 years of age, the midfielder believes it is the perfect time for him to make the step up to the big leagues and compete for major trophies. The Reds, playing in the UEFA Champions League unlike the Foxes and the Gunners, could be an enticing destination.

But then again, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will be interested in the Belgian at any point of the window. Warnock’s suggestion is good but it could remain just a suggestion if the club doesn’t act in that direction.

With the dismal start to the season in which the team has two points in three games and in all games the midfield has been found lacking, it is imperative that we enter the transfer market for a midfielder who is available for a cut-price and has shown desire to leave his present club.

If not Tielemans, then someone else. But the Reds can’t think about going on without an addition in the middle.
