Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson injured his hamstring against Newcastle United
Tensions are rising at Liverpool following another midfield injury. This time, it is the club captain Jordan Henderson. Jurgen Klopp confirmed the same in his post-match conference and said the injury was so serious that he couldn’t carry on. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
In a tense environment at Anfield, the Reds left it late to snatch the win from nothing. A Fabio Carvalho goal from point-blank range in the 98th minute settled the issue between Liverpool and Newcastle United after the Magpies took the lead early on from an Alexander Isak goal.
The Reds’ skipper was seen coming off the pitch in the 71st minute, replaced by James Milner. Hendo will undergo a scan ahead of the Merseyside derby to determine the extent of the injury. This will most likely rule him out of one of the most important games of the league campaign for Liverpool.
“Hendo is injured. He got a hamstring which is not helpful. It was that serious that he could not carry on. It was not a tactical change.”
The one positive Liverpool can take out of their injury situation is Curtis Jones and Joel Matip returned to the bench after prolonged periods on the sidelines after injuries. On Thursday, Diogo Jota will resume team training. Darwin Nunez also returns from suspension for the Everton game.
Henderson joins Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the list of injured Liverpool midfielders. A return date for both Englishmen is yet to be assessed. It leaves the Reds short of options in the middle of the park.
During his post-match press conference, the Reds boss said that they are unlikely to conduct any business ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, but they should not close the door completely.

Henderson’s injury appears to have forced Liverpool to make an offer for Arthur Merlo. The Brazilian will join the Merseysiders on a season-long loan. Time will tell if it is an inspired decision.
