Arthur Melo and Liverpool. How will this transfer turn out?

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, Arthur Melo will sign for Liverpool on a season-long loan from Juventus. According to the contract, there is no option to buy the Brazilian at the end of the loan spell.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have bought 36 players in his six years at the club. Only 2 of those players came into Anfield as loanees. Steven Caulker joined the Reds in January 2016 and featured for the Reds only four times. A defensive crisis saw the club move for Caulker, but the players who were set-back seemed to return from a lay-off quicker than Klopp expected.

“It was very important for us. In our situation, four weeks ago we didn’t know we’d have a problem with centre-halves because they were all in the race.”

The second loanee was Ozan Kabak, who was signed much recently in 2020. A situation worse than that of 2016 in terms of injury forced Liverpool to sign Kabak temporarily. He played more than Caulker, featuring 13 times across all competitions for the Reds.

The Turkish grew quickly to become a fan favourite, and the club’s decision to not trigger the buy clause involved in his contract left a lot of fans shocked. He was on the Reds’ radar for a while back then. But eventually, Liverpool turned their attention to French centre-back Ibrahima Konate.

Now, Liverpool have reportedly gone on to sign Arthur Melo on deadline day. This might have been a panic signing, as Jordan Henderson had a hamstring issue towards the end of the Newcastle United fixture.

Landing onto the Brazilian from the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Ruben Neves, who are arguably much more proven than the Juventus man, is an indication of the fact that Liverpool might have signed the ex-Barca player as a stop-gap.

There is a possibility that Liverpool wouldn’t have wanted to go all-out this summer, saving up for the big-money signing of long-term interest Jude Bellingham next summer. Nevertheless, the fans were hoping for a new figure in the middle of the park for Liverpool and they have been handed the same.

Nevertheless, all we can hope for is for Arthur to do well at the club. Along with that, make a name for himself with the Kop. The Brazilian is very similar to Thiago in the way he plays, and we hope that he is not half as injury prone as our Spaniard wizard.

Reportedly, if Arthur’s paperwork is done in time, he can be a part of the Merseyside derby on Saturday. The Reds also have their first UCL fixture this week, against Napoli.
