Brighton makes Liverpool transfer promise for Moises Caicedo
According to Ecuadorian outlet Tera Deportes (h/t Express), Liverpool went in with a second bid for Moises Caicedo on transfer deadline day but were rebuffed by Brighton.
It is claimed that the Seagulls asked all interested parties that they would only consider bids for the midfielder after the World Cup is over and have promised Liverpool that they would get first priority over making a bid for the player.
Our season has not started in the manner expected with nine points from the six games and many have already written off the team from the title race.
One of the major reasons behind the results have been the injury to first-team midfielders in Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita which has curtailed the way Jurgen wants his team to play.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledged the need for a new midfielder and were ready to strike a deal if the right midfielder is available.
Moises Caicedo of Brighton was identified as a primary target, who has been really impressive for Brighton after making the switch in 2020 for a meagre £4.5million.
The midfielder has adapted tremendously to the intensity of the Premier League and although still has some way to go in becoming the finished article, he is regarded as a player with immense potential.
Liverpool’s bid was turned down by Brighton with the club’s CEO, Paul Barber, showing remarkable praise for the player.
“He has settled into the Premier League fantastically and potentially he has got a World Cup to look forward to as well. It’s a really good time for Moises and we’re delighted to have him.”
Once the Liverpool board realised that Brighton are firm in its stance, Liverpool went ahead and secured a loan deal for Juventus wantaway star Arthur Melo with an option to buy on deadline day.
Arthur Melo is a very different profile to Moises Caicedo and has had two average spells at FC Barcelona and Juventus with no Premier League experience under his belt.

However, it is wrong to judge a player without giving him time to settle into his new surroundings and Jurgen Klopp would definitely have a plan for him if he went ahead to secure his services.
It is a deal which screams of panic-buy, something contrary to how we usually deal but it will be interesting to see how the midfielder copes up with the pressure and intensity of the Premier League.
