Jurgen Klopp lavishes praise on Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott
Speaking to the club’s official website, Jurgen Klopp described Harvey Elliott as someone who is a ‘real talent’. According to the German, Elliott can build on a ‘wonderful basis’. The 19-year-old broke out during his loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in the 2020/21 season.
After Liverpool’s late 2-1 win against Newcastle United, the gaffer described the former Fulham youngster as the best player on the pitch. Harvey’s continuous run of games and consistent performances show Klopp’s trust and belief in the youngster.
“Since he is here, from the first day, the players really took him under their wings. He didn’t get treated like a 17- or 18-year-old boy, or now like a 19-year-old boy or whatever that exactly means.”
The gaffer had only positives when talking about Elliott and praised the lad’s behaviour and background. He believes that all of this is attributed to the way he was brought up, and thinks that certain parts of his play are not normal for someone of his age.
“He is young as well and there are parts in his behaviour when you see interviews and stuff like this and when you see him playing and you think, ‘OK, wow. That’s not normal for a 19-year-old!’ It’s about the background, where he is coming from, how he was raised.”
Since joining the club in 2019, he has featured 27 times for the first team. A season-loan to Championship side Blackburn Rovers in 2020 saw Elliott burst onto the scene. He played 42 games for the Rovers, scoring on seven occasions and making 11 assists during his time there.
Glimpses of brilliance in the opening part of the 2021/22 season were halted by a horrific ankle injury suffered during a league encounter against Leeds United in September 2021. Owing to the same, Elliott had to miss out on most of the season, and returned only in January 2022.
Harvey Elliott’s Form
On his return though, he scored off a wonderful half volley against Cardiff City in the FA Cup. This season though, he has been in terrific form, linking up with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah on the right flank.
Elliott has been arguably the Reds’ most consistent player this season and all of us as true Kopites hope that he continues this form and thrives for Liverpool in the near and distant future. Jurgen Klopp also wants the youngster to grow on the fantastic foundation he has built for himself, soaring new heights.
“It’s Harvey and he is a real talent but we all need luck in moments and these kind of things. Now, let’s just hope he can go through, just develop and build on this wonderful basis. That’s all.”
The youngster recently penned down a new deal at the club, extending his stay until 2027. Alongside Fabio Carvalho, the youngsters are deemed to be the next big thing in Liverpool’s future.
