Arthur Melo and Thiago Alcantara might be recalled to the squad for the UEFA Champions League clash vs Napoli

According to Liverpool.com, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may have to rely on Arthur Melo and Thiago Alcantara earlier than expected.

Arthur Melo was a last-minute buy from Juventus on a loan deal with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season for £32m.

Thiago has returned to training after being on the sidelines for six weeks but with several key players missing, he might be put to action earlier than expected.

Currently, Fabinho is available alongside James Milner, with Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Fabio Carvalho all out of contention for the UEFA Champions League clash against Napoli.

Liverpool and Napoli will be joined by Ajax and Rangers in their Champions League group

Liverpool face Napoli in their first UEFA Champions League clash for the season and are part of a rather tough group with Eredivisie Champions Ajax and last year Europa’s League finalist Rangers completing the group.

Therefore, it is imperative that we start our European campaign in the best manner possible and this might require Arthur Melo and Thiago Alcantara to play a substantial role.

Arthur made the switch to Liverpool in the final hours of the transfer window after falling down the pecking order at Juventus and being deemed surplus to requirements.

This comes after a failed spell at FC Barcelona where he was often criticised for playing too safe at times and hence would be looking to prove a point with his current loan move.
