Injury blow for Liverpool ahead of crunch UCL clash vs Ajax Amsterdam

Liverpool star Andy Robertson picks up injury ahead of Ajax Amsterdam clash

Injury concerns for Liverpool FC increase with Andy Robertson the latest entrant to the injured players’ list. The Scotland captain is currently nursing what is thought to be a knee injury. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Liverpool’s #26 has been part of most games this season, and also took part in Liverpool’s 4-1 thumping at the hands of Napoli. The injury will keep him out for a while. As a result, he will not play against Ajax.

Gaffer Jurgen Klopp spoke about his injury situation. Additionally, he has effectively ruled the 28-year-old out from featuring anytime before the international break. Kostas Tsimikas is the natural option to deputise for Robbo.

“Robbo now is not 100 per cent. [He felt something] very late, 93rd or whatever minute – actually he felt it the next day only. But yeah, he is out for at least, I would say, after the international break.”

Time for Tsimikas to prove his worth

Andy’s injury is obviously not ideal, but Liverpool can afford to see Robbo out for a while as the backup option in Kostas Tsimikas has been performing consistently well whenever given an opportunity. The 26-year-old’s highlight in his short Liverpool career until now is winning the Reds their ninth FA Cup by scoring the last penalty.

Robertson though, unfortunately, has joined the long list of injured Liverpool players including Jordan Henderson, Fabio Carvalho and Naby Keita among long-term injured Ibrahima Konate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Calvin Ramsay and Caoimhin Kelleher.

With the Chelsea fixture also under the loom of suspension, it will give the players a good rest between fixtures to recover and maintain fitness at the highest level. A time frame hasn’t been allotted for Robbo to return. Nevertheless, it is expected that he should be fit for the Brighton game immediately after the international break.

This will give a chance for the “Greek Scouser” to try and challenge Robbo for a place in the starting XI, especially at a time wherein the Scotsman has not been exactly up to the mark in terms of his gameplay.

With the international break in between, the only two fixtures Robbo is expected to sit out of are the Ajax game and the Chelsea fixture. The latter, as earlier mentioned, is still under the threat of being postponed.
