Transfer News: Liverpool made an unsuccessful bid of €100 million for Federico Valverde

Liverpool faced a very difficult situation in the last few days of the summer transfer window. Jurgen Klopp thought he would not sign any one, but injuries to players changed that thought process.

The Merseyside club were forced to look for options in the market with deadline day approaching fast. The club ended up signing Arthur Melo from Juventus on a season-long loan on deadline day.

However, he was not the only choice. According to Spanish news outlet AS via Madrid Universal (h/t Liverpool Echo), The Reds were interested in Federico Valverde and even made a bid for the Real Madrid man.

It is claimed that The Reds submitted an offer around €100 million for the 24-year-old midfielder in the final two days of the transfer window. However, Los Blancos were swift to reject such an offer for their UCL winning star.

Madrid had no interest in entertaining offers for the Uruguayan international that late in the window, and it is not surprising. With a team full of stars, Valverde has quietly cemented his place in the team and is today a major player under Carlo Ancelotti.

A midfielder by trade, he is usually deployed as a right-winger. His good pace with the capability of carrying the ball forward and finding players in the box is very well known to Liverpool fans.

It is not surprising that Klopp was interested in the player. A versatile player with a very attacking mindset, the Uruguayan would have made a very fine addition to this Liverpool squad.

But it was not meant to be this summer. It remains to be seen if the Reds try to sign the 24-year-old in January or next summer. It will be a challenging task to pry the player from Madrid, but fans will hope that their side can be successful in doing so.
