“Worst signing of the summer” – Italian journalist does not hold back on former Liverpool ace

Former Liverpool star Divock Origi lambasted for poor start to life in Italy

Speaking to Daily Mail (h/t Liverpool Echo), Italian journalist Alvise Cagnazzo has labelled former Liverpool striker Divock Origi as the worst Serie A signing of the summer following his move to Scudetto champions AC Milan.

Origi spent eight years at Anfield making 175 appearances contributing to 41 goals and 18 assists but was not able to cement a name for himself in the starting lineup, often making his contributions from the bench.

He chose to not renew his contract and move pastures abroad to Italy with an aim to be a starting forward for a top club.

Origi has not had the best of starts to life at AC Milan with four appearances off the bench and former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud being preferred over the Belgian by Stefano Pioli.

Origi has also been at the receiving end of injury issues which has prevented his proper acclimatisation to his new surroundings.

Cagnazzo is afraid that AC Milan’s new signing would not be able to put the numbers as expected from a forward.

“At 27 years old, any player, especially a striker, should be at their peak. But Origi seems to already be on a downward curve in his career.”

Origi has not had the success that he would have envisioned while moving to Serie A with his place for the Belgium World Cup squad also in doubt.

With AC Milan looking to defend the league title, Pioli would be looking to have a strong squad depth for the entirety of the season. Now it is up to Origi to prevent the downward spiral of his career and start making a name for himself in Serie A.
