According to Spanish Football Expert Guillem Balague via Twitter, Arthur Melo has been working hard to get to speed and up with the rest of the squad at Liverpool.
The 26-year-old who joined the Reds from Juventus on loan, did not have a proper pre-season. Considering that and the lack of match fitness, Arthur has been working hard behind the scenes. (h/t The Express
)The last few weeks saw a rise in rumours about Liverpool planning to terminate Arthur’s contract. A tweet from Fabrizio Romano mentioning the midfielder’s focus on Liverpool reduced these rumours. On a positive note, it comes as a really good message that the former Barcelona midfielder has been putting in the shift to make it count in Liverpool.
As things stand, Liverpool’s coaching department stands mighty pleased with Arthur’s development. His ability to understand the Reds’ style of play and adapt quickly is something which has impressed the coaches. The team has developed an individualised fitness plan to get him up to speed since he hasn’t had a regular pre-season.
Moreover, Arthur is not a part of Brazil’s squad for the upcoming friendlies. Hence, it is an opportunity for the Juventus loanee to get match-fit for the Reds. Additionally, he is working on his days off as well, to compensate for his lack of match fitness.
Currently, without the services of Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones, the Reds lack numbers in terms of central midfielders. And during such tough times, having someone like Arthur, recognised for being an extremely effective technical player is a big plus.
It would not matter for gaffer Jurgen Klopp if Arthur takes more time to get match-fit, as current first-team superstars like Andrew Robertson and Fabinho took their time as well to adjust to Liverpool’s style of play.
Given his desire to do well for the team, it would not be long to see the Brazilian in action for the Reds. In fact, it is a very real possibility for Arthur to start the game when Liverpool face Brighton and Hove Albion on 1st October.
