“A crazy moment” – 19-year-old Liverpool prospect opens up on shock first-team call-up

Harvey Blair opens up on Liverpool first-team call-up in the Carabao cup last season

Speaking in an interview with Liverpoolfc.com as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Reds youth prospect Harvey Blair opens up on the first-team call-up in the Carabao cup last season, admitting that he was pleasantly shocked when it happened.

The former Manchester United academy player got his first minutes as a first-team Liverpool star in the Preston North End in the fourth round of the Carabao cup as Jurgen Klopp looked to rotate his main players for the domestic cup competition.

The teenage starlet who was on Man United’s books until 2015, joined Liverpool and has since then progressed through the ranks, and has largely impressed with every opportunity that he has gotten until now.

Blair, who was a part of the U-23s group, revealed that he was expecting a call-up to the squad for the match against Blackburn and was shocked to see his name missing from the squad list that day.

Little did the 19-year-old know that he was in for a pleasant surprise and that Jurgen Klopp had other plans for the talented starlet. Blair revealed that he was overjoyed when he got to know that he was called up to train with the first team.

“Then [U23s analyst] Ray Shearwood called me and said, ‘you’re not going to be involved in the game with the U23s because Jurgen wants you to be up there to train. We trained on the Monday and I did really well. I was playing right wing and I was doing really well, had a really good session. ”

As expected, the talented 19-year-old admitted that he was extremely nervous to represent the team that he supported.

“I was so nervous and everything was coming on top of me. I was just like, ‘I’m actually going to play for Liverpool, my team’. It was such a crazy moment.”

Harvey Blair is very versatile and can play anywhere across the front line. Although predominantly a right-winger, the English starlet is also capable of playing through the middle as a false-nine and even on the left flank.

Blair has featured six times for the Liverpool U-21 side this season across all competitions managing to score one goal during this time. If he continues showing an impressive level, there is every chance that the teenage sensation is called up for the cup competitions by Jurgen Klopp yet again this season.

At 19, Blair still has a very far way to go. He is just getting started off and will want to continue developing on a similar note and make it big in the first team soon.
