Club News: Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is impressed with Calvin Ramsay

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has said that he is impressed by the attitude of Calvin Ramsay, as the right-back adapts to life at Merseyside.

Ramsay arrived at Liverpool from Aberdeen this summer for £4.5 million which could rise to £8 million after add-ons. The 19-year-old is expected to play understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold and likely rack up minutes in cup competitions.

However, an injury in the pre-season has prevented that former Aberdeen man from making any immediate impact. Gomez has instead covered for Trent whenever the right-back has been rested, especially last season.

But the new right-back is still patiently waiting for his senior debut for his new club, Gomez can’t wait to see him unleashed on the pitch.

Speaking to the Liverpool website as quoted by Daily Record, the centre-back praised the right-back for his down-to-earth attitude.

“Calvin seems like a really down-to-earth lad. Obviously, we weren’t able to mix with him in training in pre-season, which was unfortunate, but hopefully he’s nearly there in overcoming that little issue and I think we’re all excited to see him play.”

Gomez has had a tough time this season, especially in the Champions League. The centre-back came under huge criticism for his poor performance in the 4-1 defeat against Napoli earlier this month.

But, the centre-back is not alone responsible for the poor performance of the entire team. All the players have been below par this season and hopefully then can turn their form around after this international break.

Liverpool will host Brighton & Hove Albion on October 1. Fans will hope for all three points, but it won’t be easy. Ramsay, meanwhile, will hope to make his competitive debut in that match.
