Flamengo seeking €60m for Liverpool target Joao Gomes
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Reds target Joao Gomes has a price of €60m set on him Flamengo. Earlier this month, the midfielder signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2027.
The 21-year-old midfielder had earlier admitted that he would fancy a move to Merseyside and rejoice in the opportunity to play for Liverpool. Gomes saw himself linked to Liverpool in the recent transfer window after multiple injuries to the Reds’ starting midfielders.
Real Madrid are also in pursuit of Gomes. At the moment, Los Blancos seem to chase behind all of Liverpool’s transfer targets, including Jude Bellingham. Last season, Carlo Ancelotti was ahead of Jurgen Klopp to sign Aurelien Tchouameni.
Liverpool linked with Joao Gomes
€60m seems to be a lot for a youngster who is yet to feature for his country and prove himself on a bigger stage than the Brazilian league. But that is the same thing which plays the ball in Flamengo’s court as he is a youngster with loads of potential.
With Jordan Henderson and James Milner not getting any younger at the moment, it will be extremely important for the Reds to dive into the transfer market for young midfielders and Gomes could be one of the players Liverpool would be looking to get on board.
As far as his statistics are concerned, he has played 106 games for Flamengo, scoring on three occasions and assisting the same number. The player is capable of donning multiple midfield roles, as well as wide-midfield. But primarily, he is a defensive midfielder, who can prove to be a good backup for Fabinho.
Even though he can play all of the roles in a 4-3-3 pivot, it is to be seen whether he can do that in the Premier League. Clearly, Flamengo value their player a lot at €60m, and Liverpool could or could not take that risk of signing the Brazilian come the January transfer window.
