Liverpool Transfer News: Three-way battle ensuing for AC Milan star Ismael Bennacer

According to Football. London, a three-way battle is ensuing for talented Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer from AC Milan with Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea all said to be interested in the talented youngster.

Reports from Sportsmediaset claim that the Reds are interested in signing the defensive midfielder while Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb claims that the Blues are also interested in the 24-year-old midfielder (h/t Football.London).

Arsenal were interested in signing the talented midfield ace in the summer but could not reach a breakthrough in negotiations with the Italian giants and the Gunners eventually settled for someone else.

Bennacer is one of the most talented defensive midfielders to come out of the Serie A in recent years. Predominantly a defensive midfielder, Bennacher can also play forward in central midfield and attacking midfield.

The 24-year-old joined AC Milan from Empoli in 2019 and has since then gone on to become a key player for the Rossoneri. He has a contract with the Italian giants until 2024 (transfermarkt).

Bennacer has played nine times for the defending Serie A champions this season across all competitions, scoring one goal until now. He has started most of the matches for AC Milan this season.

There is no doubt that the Liverpool midfield needs a major rejig in the next transfer window, but I am not sure if signing a defensive midfielder is the way to go. We already have Fabinho in our ranks.

What we need is an out-and-out box-to-box midfielder who can play a similar role to the one Georginio Wijnaldum used to play for the Reds during his time at Anfield. We have still not managed to replace the Dutchman.

Signing a midfielder is a priority but it must be the right midfielder. I am not sure Bennacer is the player, but it remains to be seen how things pan out.
