Arne Slot product Teun Koopmeiners could fulfil his Premier League dreams at Liverpool
26-year-old Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is not a new name for Liverpool supporters. He is one of the constant ones when it comes to players linked with a move to Merseyside. Ever since his days with Feyenoord, he has seen himself linked with a move to Anfield, and this upcoming term presents him the perfect opportunity to do so.
According to Sky Sports, incoming Liverpool Head Coach Arne Slot wants the £50m-rated central midfielder at the club in the summer. Koopmeiners and Slot go way back to 2017. That’s when the tactician joined John van den Brom at AZ Alkmaar as an assistant. That is the season even Teun joined from Jong AZ.
In 2019, Slot took over as head coach. He deployed Koopeminers in the “Fabinho position”, as a number 6. Even playing so deep, the midfielder racked up 21 goals and seven assists in 58 appearances under Slot and that is when he started making a name for himself in Europe.
Such is their bond that both left AZ at the same time, with Koopmeiners moving to Atalanta where he still plays. We all saw what damage the midfielder can do with his prowess in the middle of the park. The recent UEFA Europa League encounters against the Italian side are a prime example of the player’s talent.
In 121 appearances for Atalanta, he has 28 goals and 13 assists to boot. His goal count has gone down compared to his time at the Dutch club despite playing advanced roles. However, he might get back his goalscoring form under Slot.
With Slot keen to bring Koopmeiners to Liverpool, it’s clear he sees something special in the midfielder. And given their history together and Koopmeiners’ proven ability on the pitch, it could be a match made for Liverpool.
