Borussia Dortmund are interested in Liverpool star Naby Keita
Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are trying to sign Liverpool’s Naby Keita according to BILD (h/t Liverpool Echo). The 27-year-old is yet to feature for Liverpool this season owing to injury issues.
The Guinean is out of contract at the Reds next summer and is free to open discussions with suitable clubs for a pre-contractual agreement from January 1. His time at Merseyside has been full of inconsistent performances and multiple injury sidelines.
Ever since his much-hyped arrival in the summer of 2018, Keita has not been able to cement a spot for himself in Liverpool’s starting XI. A fee of £52.7 for the former RB Salzburg midfielder. One could certainly make the argument that Naby has not been able to justify his price tag.
Under Jurgen Klopp, Keita has reportedly become frustrated with a lack of consistent opportunities. However, the former RB Leipzig midfielder’s inconsistent performance attributes to the fact that the gaffer is unable to hand the player a major role in his squad.
Moreover, his absence in crucial junctures of the season demoralises the fans. Naby seems to find ways to be on the sidelines due to injury when the team needs his services the most, leaving the supporters in a dilemma as the player could do wonders when playing at the peak of his abilities.
Liverpool could extend his contract to retain the midfielder’s market value intact and then sell him to Borussia Dortmund. But signing a new contract is also under speculation as the gaffer cannot guarantee him a place in the starting XI given his injury record.
