International Watch: Darwin Nunez shines but Liverpool duo unused for Brazil

Darwin Nunez nets for Uruguay but Liverpool duo unused for Brazil

In what was a mixed day at the office for Liverpool stars when it came to national duty, summer acquisition Darwin Nunez netted for Uruguay against Canada in his side’s 2-0 win but Roberto Firmino and Fabinho were unused substitutes in Brazil’s 5-1 win against Tunisia.

Nunez started the game in the friendly against Canada last night and converted a Luis Suarez cross to score the second and final goal of the game. The Liverpool man played 61 minutes before being taken off.

It would be a good feeling for Nunez to come off the international break with a goal against his name. He will come to Anfield full of confidence in what is a very crucial part of the season for the Reds.

Elsewhere, in a game that was marred by controversy due to the racism incident on Richarlison, Liverpool stars Fabinho and Roberto Firmino remained unused substitutes in Brazil’s 5-1 win against Tunisia.

Bobby Firmino has already fallen down in the pecking order for the national team and is behind Tottenham star Richarlison as things stand. He will have to perform well at the club level next month especially with Gabriel Jesus breathing down his neck for a national spot.

Fabinho on the other hand is very much in Tite’s plans for the national team and his not featuring last night might be down to just the fact that Man United star Casemiro put in a masterclass in midfield last night.

Elsewhere Diogo Jota started for Portugal in the clash against Spain last night which La Roja won 1-0 and this meant that the Liverpool forward’s side failed to secure a spot in the knockouts of the Nation League.

With the international break coming to an end, all these players will return to Liverpool in the next few days as they look to get back to club football in what is set to be a hectic month for the Reds.

Klopp’s side have not had the best of starts to the season but they definitely will be expected to turn things around. Liverpool have to get back to their best very soon and look to challenge for trophies this season.
