Ibrahima Konate returns to Liverpool training ahead of Rangers clash

In what is a crucial boost for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool ahead of their Champions League clash against Rangers, French defender Ibrahima Konate has returned to training and could be in contention to face the Scottish side, according to Liverpool Echo.

Konate has missed the start of Liverpool’s season due to injury. The talented French defender got injured in the Reds’ final pre-season game against Strasbourg and has since then missed all footballing action.

The Frenchman who joined the Reds from RB Leipzig at the beginning of last season had a very impressive first campaign in England. He would have expected to start this season, especially in the absence of Joel Matip but fate had it otherwise.

It finally looks as though Konate has recovered from his injury though. The 23-year-old centre-back is back in first-team training and is set to feature in the squad for the game against the Scottish giants.

However, this does not mean that Konate will start the game in the Champions League though. If the Reds are in a comfortable position, however, the German manager could choose to give the defender some minutes.

Liverpool have not had the best of starts to the season. They have really struggled at times and already find themselves very far behind in the Premier League. The Reds really have a huge task on their hands.

Defensively, the Reds have been very poor this season. They have struggled to shop shipping goals and Konate’s return could hopefully help Liverpool and Klopp solve at least some of the defensive frailties.

It remains to be seen how Klopp goes about turning the fortune of the Reds. The return of Konate could be one thing that could help, but it remains to be seen.
