Speaking in his weekly column for Liverpool Echo, Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes that Brighton’s Leandro Trossard should be on Liverpool’s radar taking into account his impressive performances not only in the previous fixture but in the two side’s meeting last season.
Aldridge, who is regarded by many as a legend of Liverpool, made 104 appearances for the club. He believes that Trossard is on the level of the Reds’ first-team starters and would be a quality addition.
I thought he was the best player on the pitch when we played them in the same fixture last season.
I thought we might have been linked with him in the summer, because as far as I’m concerned he’s right up Liverpool’s street.”
Trossard had arguably the best game of his career against Liverpool where he scored a superb hat trick to snatch a point for the team. It was not just the number of goals scored but the quality with which they were scored which shows the ability that the player possesses.
Moving from Belgian side KRC Genk in 2019, Trossard has gone from strength to strength in his Premier League career. He rose to prominence when the Brighton team started to take shape under now-Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
With the change in managers, many expected Brighton to fall from their good start to the season where they currently sit fourth in the league.
However, the way some of its key players like Trossard have taken up the responsibility, it seems like the transition to the Roberto de Zerbi era would not be a big issue.
Liverpool were linked all summer for another Brighton asset in midfielder Moises Caicedo but a deal could not come on the cards due to Brighton’s reluctance to sell their star player.
The last game against the Seagulls showed that Trossard is also one player which should be kept an eye on and one to watch out for a big move in the coming transfer window.
Considering that the presence of Sadio Mane from the left is being missed more than ever, with Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez still struggling to adapt to life at Anfield, Trossard could provide the much-needed pedigree and energy to bring life back to Anfield.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool would go for the Brighton man in the coming transfer windows but surely he should be one name on the shortlist given his impressive form and performances in the Premier League.
